Our Purpose – A Global Voice for Investor Relations

Investor Relations has become one of the most strategically important professions in global capital markets. Yet, despite its evolution, influence and growing complexity, it remains fragmented across borders, markets and regulatory regimes.

The Global Federation of Investor Relations Associations and Professionals (GFIRAP) has been established to address this gap.

Our purpose is simple but ambitious: to create a truly global, unified voice for the investor relations profession. One that represents the industry at the highest levels, defines global standards of excellence, and ensures that IR is recognised as a mature, strategic discipline worldwide.

Capital is global. Investors are global. Markets are global. Investor Relations must now fully reflect that reality.

GFIRAP exists to connect national and regional IR associations, senior practitioners, thought leaders and educators into a single international forum. A forum focused not on replacing local societies, but on amplifying their influence, aligning best practice, and giving the profession the collective strength it now requires.

This Federation is founded on a belief that Investor Relations has entered a new era: one defined by strategic relevance, reputational accountability, ESG integration, technological disruption and board-level influence. These forces demand coordination, collaboration and leadership on a global scale.

Why the Federation Matters Now

Investor Relations has undergone a profound transformation over the past two decades. Once viewed primarily as a reporting or communications function, IR is now recognised as a critical strategic interface between companies and capital markets.

IROs today operate at the intersection of finance, strategy, governance, sustainability, regulation and reputation. They advise CEOs and boards, shape corporate narratives, manage activist risk, and increasingly influence long-term value creation.

We aim to support the development of globally recognised principles for Investor Relations excellence. This includes alignment on core competencies, ethical standards, disclosure discipline and strategic frameworks that can be adapted locally but recognised internationally

The Federation works alongside national associations to promote education, certification and continuous professional development. Our goal is to elevate IR worldwide by supporting rigorous training pathways and shared competency frameworks.

Advocacy and Representation

The Federation provides a collective voice for IR at an international level. Engaging with regulators, stock exchanges, standard setters and global institutions to ensure the profession’s perspective is understood and respected.

At its heart, GFIRAP is about connection. Bringing together associations and professionals from all regions to share experiences, challenges and solutions, and to foster a stronger sense of global professional identity.

Our Mission and Strategic Pillars

A central pillar of GFIRAP’s mission is the Global IR Summit.

The Summit is conceived as the flagship annual gathering of the global investor relations community. A forum where senior IROs, association leaders, regulators, investors and advisors come together to address the most critical issues shaping the future of the profession.

The inaugural Global IR Summit will be held in London, reflecting the city’s historic and ongoing role as a global financial centre and crossroads for international capital markets.

From London, the Summit will become a travelling global event, rotating across major financial hubs in Europe, North America, the Middle East, Asia-Pacific, Africa and Latin America.

Each Summit will focus on:
